Beautifully Repurposed--Restyle your Engagement Ring or Design Something New

You still love each other, but do you still love the look of your engagement ring? Don't feel bad if the answer is "no." Styles change and sometimes so do our own personal tastes. The beauty of it is that you can love your engagement ring again by restyling it into something new! Sometimes, it can be a very subtle change, like a metal color change, or maybe adding a halo around your existing diamond! You might be surprised how your "old" ring can still look like the ring you received at your proposal with a few little tweaks! But these tweaks can really make a big difference. It's still your ring, after all...Just improved. Many couples choose to buy a new setting or do a custom design that still feels like their "ring." It is a wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary, or to just celebrate your love.

But, I don't want to hurt my partner's feelings

Frequently, a spouse feels that they will hurt their partner's feelings if they say that they want a new look for their engagement ring. In reality, it has been our experience that the complete opposite is true. Working together, couples often enjoy the process of finding a new setting or creating a new look for their diamond. The process is fun and brings them together to celebrate their love. They can either choose a simple restyle, by picking a new setting for their diamond, or they can create a custom design. Sometimes, they even incorporate diamonds from other pieces of jewelry or from an heirloom piece that is sitting in the jewelry box. The truth is, your partner wants you to be happy--and happy with your decision to have said "yes" in the first place, and this usually means that they are happy to meet with a jeweler to discuss taking a look at how to fall in love with your ring again.

Adding and Upgrading Really Brings the Sparkle

A Classic 3-Stone Ring is a wonderful look

Another choice some couples make is to add or upgrade the existing engagement ring. This is done in several ways including:
1.  Less sentimental couples may trade in their diamond and upgrade to a new one
2. Some work with the existing diamond and decide to embelish or add to it. Adding a Halo, or sidestones to the ring really enhances the look
3. Couples create a three stone ring. Their past, present, and future is important to many couples and can be executed beautifully and sentimentally with a three-stone ring
4. Adding more diamonds or gemstones and getting a larger look is a frequent choice

Finally, some couples do buy all new, but decide to save their "old" ring, perhaps gifting it to a child for them to use in their proposal. Its a lovely way to pass down some love.

Family Heirlooms: Use them or Create them and Give your Jewelry New Life

There are many reasons why you may want to repurpose a piece of jewelry. Take for example, an heirloom piece of jewelry. Perhaps, the style  is no longer your taste, or maybe you want to incorporate diamonds from the ring into a new piece of jewelry. So, when we talk about repurposing a family jewelry, we are taking the incredible story of that family heirloom and giving it a new life. You will keep your family story alive while also creating something new and beautiful that you can enjoy for years to come.

Your heirloom ring might be financially similar to the ring you might buy today, but when you consider the additional sentimental value, suddenly your ring is now priceless in value, and with such an invaluable item in your possession, what are your options of what you can do with the engagement ring and/or the diamond in it? Fortunately, you have many options at your disposal. It all comes down to preference and creativity.

Design a new custom, one-of-a-kind Engagement Ring or a new piece of jewelry with your Heirloom pieces:

This is probably the most popular option as it allows you to keep the tradition of the family engagement ring alive while also creating something unique and tailor-made for you. Take the round-cut diamond in all its brilliance and use it as the nucleus of a brand-new engagement ring. Change anything from the setting to the metals and everything in-between but as it stands, you know you have your diamond shining with a beautiful history.

Now you are ready to create something stunning and, at the same time, nostalgic.

But what if we broke outside that box and instead, created multiple pieces of jewelry from a family heirloom? For an example, a large diamond and gemstone heirloom cocktail ring, is sometimes very versitile and allows a jewelry designer to multiple pieces of jewelry such as a necklace, bracelet, or a smaller ring. You'll be repurposing everything in your family heirloom ring: the metal, the gemstones, the diamonds, and more.

Sometimes, families will create multiple pieces so that several other family members can have a piece of a jewelry, frequently it is a sentimental offering that becomes enjoyed for the next generation, and beyond.

Enjoy your Jewelry

We tell our clients everyday, "Your jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed." Jewelry is about happiness, and your jewelry isn't happy when it is sitting in the jewelry box. And, your not happy if it is sitting there. So, repurposing it in some way truly is a celebration of new life! And a celebration of Love!
